Durga Puja is a famous Hindu festival celebrated in South Asia that celebrates the worship of the ten-armed goddess Durga. Durga Puja celebrates her victory over the evil demon Mahishasura who threatened the whole world as she was considered invincible. To destroy the demon, Durga was born from the collective energy of all the gods, each of their ten arms had weapons of each god. Thus, on the seventh day (Saptami) of Durga Puja, the goddess started her battle against Mahishasura which ended with her death on Vijayadashami (10th day).

What is the ritual of Maha Saptami?

On this special day of Maha Saptami, devotees wake up early in the morning, bathe in holy water and pray to the Goddess Shakti.
Sacred food (bhog) is prepared in which special dishes are offered to the deity.
Pandals are established during Navaratri, which are decorated with garlands.
According to the rituals and traditions, on the day of Maha Saptami, Maha Puja begins and devotees also perform Kalaratri Puja.
In some places, the devotees also worship Goddess Saraswati on the day of Maha Saptami by worshiping Saraswati.
